Roundtable Discussion: Building a Caring Society: How to Ensure Universal Values Are Built into Our Education System

On 17 July 2025, Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) held a Roundtable Discussion titled “Building a Caring Society: How to Ensure Universal Values Are Built into Our Education System.”This well-timed session brought together educators, policymakers and thought leaders to explore how values can be meaningfully embedded within Malaysia’s education system from curriculum design to classroom practice. The discussion highlighted the urgent need for an education framework that goes beyond academic excellence to shape socially responsible, emotionally intelligent and civically engaged individuals. The discussants explored what society expects from education today and how teachers can shape well-rounded students responsible from an early age. With sincere appreciation, we thank Prof. Dr. Maszlee Malik for moderating the roundtable. His deep expertise in both education and social policy combined with his engaging moderation helped frame key questions and exchange of ideas on how to cultivate a more caring and value-driven society through education.
