London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) Jointly Organise Malaysia Futures Forum

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 May 2023: Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) and the Saw Swee Hock Southeast Asia Centre of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE SEAC) are delighted to announce the Malaysia Futures forum, scheduled to take place from 31 May to 1 June 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.
Following the Southeast Asia Forum 2023: Southeast Asia Futures held by LSE SEAC in London from 9–12 May 2023, LSE SEAC will continue the conversation on ‘futures’ with KRI by co-hosting the LSE SEAC-KRI Forum 2023: Malaysia Futures from 31 May to 1 June 2023 in Kuala Lumpur. The forum seeks to provide valuable insights into Malaysia's future by engaging in critical discussions and thought-provoking conversations by leading scholars, policymakers, think tanks and thought leaders.
Distinguished speakers, including Professor Robert Wade, Professor of Political Economy and Development at LSE, Professor Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Senior Advisor at KRI and Professor Danny Quah, Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics and Dean, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS) will contribute their expertise and insights. KRI Chairman, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop will officiate at the opening of the forum.
The Malaysia Futures Forum will feature a programme encompassing keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. Notable panellists include the Deputy Governor, Bank Negara Malaysia, Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, scholars from higher education institutions in Malaysia and around the region, policy researchers and industry representatives.
"We are excited to bring together scholars, policymakers, and thought leaders to delve into the possibilities and challenges of Malaysia's future," said Professor Hyun Bang Shin, Professor of Geography and Urban Studies, LSE, and Director of the SEAC. "The Malaysia Futures Forum provides a unique platform to explore innovative approaches and perspectives that can contribute to the country's sustainable, inclusive and equitable development."
As a collaborative effort between LSE SEAC and KRI, the forum leverages the expertise and research capabilities of both institutions to foster informed discussions and generate actionable insights for Malaysia's development agenda.
"We believe that by examining multiple scenarios and exploring different trajectories, we can gain a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics that shape Malaysia's future," said Dr Suraya Ismail, Director of Research at KRI. "The Malaysia Futures Forum aims to facilitate constructive conversations and knowledge sharing among diverse stakeholders, enabling us to collectively address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead."
The forum will be held at the Connexion Conference and Event Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Registration for the Malaysia Futures forum is now open, offering limited physical and virtual attendance options.
