
As employment income is the largest source of household income, the conditions of the labour market are important for individual and household economic well-being. Work in an Evolving Malaysia, Part II of our second instalment of The State of Households 2020, examines different work realities faced by workers in different parts of the country. It features the landscape of workforce demographics, alongside various labour market outcomes in different states. Beyond conventional quantitative measures, this report highlights the importance of decent work and conducive working conditions in improving the life quality of our workforce. The evolution of the labour market is also linked to changes in capital investment trends, technological advancements and other shocks, including the Covid-19 pandemic, to further understand the opportunities and challenges in the future of work for Malaysia.
